General
Trasely is an iOS app that turns photos and shapes into real GPS routes for running, walking, or cycling. You pick a visually interesting shape — the outline of a dog, a heart, a star, a building silhouette — and Trasely maps it onto the real street network near you, giving you a route you can actually navigate.
Think of it as route planning where the creative constraint is the shape, not the destination.
Trasely is free to download and use. The free tier lets you create routes with a limited distance cap and access to a curated set of built-in shapes.
Trasely PRO is an optional subscription (monthly, annual, or lifetime) that removes all limits and unlocks all features, including all 50+ shapes, unlimited distance, Loop Route, Point-to-Point, and TCX export.
Trasely requires iOS 17.0 or later. It runs on iPhone and iPad. The on-device AI (photo contour extraction) requires iOS 17 because it uses VNGenerateForegroundInstanceMaskRequest, which was introduced in iOS 17.
An Apple Watch or macOS version is not currently available.
An internet connection is needed for route generation — the routing requests are sent to Stadia Maps (or the OpenStreetMap fallback) to match your shape to real streets.
Photo processing, contour extraction, and editing all work entirely on-device without any network connection. Viewing saved routes in your library also works offline.
Route Creation
Photos with a clear, well-defined subject on a simple background give the best results. Good examples:
✓ An animal silhouette against a plain background
✓ A logo or icon with strong contrast
✓ A hand-drawn shape on white paper, photographed from above
✓ A simple figurine or object
✗ Busy street scenes with multiple subjects
✗ Very intricate shapes with lots of fine detail
✗ Photos where the subject blends into the background
If your photo produces a messy contour, try the Contour Editor to manually clean it up, or use a shape from the built-in library instead.
Route matching depends heavily on the street network in the area you choose. Dense urban grids (like Manhattan or central Barcelona) produce much more accurate results than suburban areas with curved streets or cul-de-sacs.
A few things to try:
• Move the shape to a denser part of the city
• Increase the scale — larger shapes cover more streets and give the algorithm more options
• Try a simpler shape — fewer corners mean fewer routing constraints
• Rotate the shape — sometimes a 45° rotation produces a much better fit
Yes. The Route Editor lets you drag individual waypoints anywhere on the map. Each moved point is automatically snapped to the nearest routable road. The route is recalculated in real time as you drag.
You can undo changes by tapping the undo button or shaking your device. The undo history is kept for the duration of your editing session.
On the Route Setup screen, tap Set starting point. A map picker will open — scroll and zoom to find any location, then tap to pin it. You can also use your current GPS location by tapping the location button.
In Contour Placement mode, the starting point pin can be dragged directly on the map.
Trasely supports three activity profiles, each using a routing engine tuned for that mode:
Running / Walking — prioritizes footpaths, pedestrian zones, and parks. Avoids highways.
Cycling — prefers bike lanes, cycling paths, and quieter roads. Respects cycling restrictions.
Export & Compatibility
GPX files exported from Trasely are compatible with virtually every fitness and mapping app, including:
Running & cycling: Strava, Garmin Connect, Komoot, Suunto, Polar Flow, Wahoo, Rouvy, TrainingPeaks, Sigma, Apple Fitness (via Maps)
GPS devices: Garmin Edge, Garmin Forerunner, Wahoo ELEMNT, Polar, Suunto watches
Maps: Apple Maps, Google Maps, OsmAnd, Maps.me
TCX format is supported by Garmin Connect, TrainingPeaks, Rouvy, and most Garmin devices. TCX export requires Trasely PRO.
1. In Trasely, go to Route Detail → Export → GPX.
2. Choose Save to Files or share directly to the Strava app if it appears in the share sheet.
3. In the Strava app, go to You → My Routes → tap the upload icon.
4. Select the GPX file from your Files app.
5. Your route will appear in My Routes and can be navigated or shared on Strava.
1. Export as GPX or TCX from Trasely.
2. Open the Garmin Connect app.
3. Go to More → Training & Planning → Courses.
4. Tap the + icon and choose Import Course.
5. Select your exported file from the Files app.
6. Sync your Garmin device — the course will transfer over Bluetooth.

Privacy & Data
No. Photo processing and contour extraction run entirely on your device using Apple's Vision Framework. Your photos are never sent to any server. The only network requests Trasely makes are the routing API calls, which contain only GPS coordinates — never images.
All routes are stored locally on your device using SwiftData. They are included in your iPhone backup (iCloud or iTunes), but are not stored on Trasely's servers.
No. Trasely only accesses your location when you actively use a location-based feature (e.g., setting your current location as a starting point). It does not track or record your location in the background.
Since your routes and data are stored locally on your device, you can delete all app data by deleting the Trasely app from your iPhone. If you've contacted our support email and want us to delete any personal information we hold (such as a support email thread), contact us at trasely.app@gmail.com.
