Quick answers to the most common questions about Trasely.

Check your internet connection. Route generation requires a network connection to the routing engine. Try switching from Wi-Fi to cellular (or vice versa).
Try a different location. If the area you've chosen has very sparse street data (rural areas, private property, bodies of water), routing may fail. Move the shape to a location with denser streets.
Simplify your contour. Very complex shapes with hundreds of points can occasionally cause routing issues. Use the Contour Editor's simplify slider to reduce the point count.
Try again. The public OSM Valhalla endpoint (used as a fallback) occasionally experiences high load. Wait a moment and try again.
Recrop the photo. Go back to the crop step and frame the subject more tightly, removing distracting background elements.
Use the Contour Editor. After extraction, you can manually adjust individual points and use the Simplify and Smooth controls to clean up the contour before routing.
Try a different photo. Photos with high contrast between the subject and background produce the cleanest contours. Try a well-lit photo with a simple background.
Use the Shape Library instead. If a specific shape keeps extracting poorly from photos, it's likely available as a pre-made shape in the library with better results.
Check the file extension. Make sure the exported file ends in .gpx (or .tcx for TCX). Some apps require a specific extension.
Import as a Route, not an Activity. In Strava, use My Routes → Import rather than importing as a recorded activity — GPX files exported from Trasely contain course data, not activity recordings.
Use Garmin Connect's course import. In Garmin Connect, go to Training → Courses → Import rather than trying to upload via the activity feed.
If none of the above helps, email the GPX file to trasely.app@gmail.com and describe what you're trying to import into — we'll investigate.
Restore purchases. Open Settings → Subscription → Restore Purchases inside Trasely. This re-validates your subscription with the App Store.
Check your Apple ID. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID that was used for the original purchase (Settings app → your name at the top).
Check subscription status. Open iOS Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → check if the Trasely subscription is listed and active.
If you've confirmed the subscription is active in Apple's system but the app still shows free tier, email us at trasely.app@gmail.com with your Apple ID email (not your password) and the date of purchase.
Update to the latest version. Check the App Store for a Trasely update — crash fixes are often released quickly.
Restart the app. Double-tap the Home button (or swipe up on Face ID devices) to close Trasely fully, then reopen it.
Restart your device. A full device restart clears memory state that can sometimes cause app crashes.
Free up storage. The app needs a small amount of free storage to save routes and process images. If your device is nearly full, Trasely may behave unexpectedly.
If the issue persists, please email trasely.app@gmail.com with your device model, iOS version, and a description of when the crash occurs. If you can reproduce it consistently, that information helps us fix it quickly.
Trasely needs location access to use your current position as a starting point. To grant access:
1. Open the iOS Settings app.
2. Scroll down and tap Trasely.
3. Tap Location → choose While Using the App.
Location access is entirely optional — you can always set a starting point by manually tapping on the map instead.
Route matching accuracy depends entirely on the available street network. The algorithm finds the best possible match — but in areas with sparse or irregular streets, the result may differ significantly from the original shape.
Tips for better matching:
• Choose a dense urban area with a grid-like street layout
• Use a larger scale — more distance means more streets to work with
• Try rotating the shape — some orientations fit local street patterns better
• Use a simpler shape — fewer and larger curves match better than fine details
• Use the Route Editor to manually adjust the result to your liking
Trasely requires iOS 17.0 or later. This is because on-device subject isolation uses VNGenerateForegroundInstanceMaskRequest, available from iOS 17.
Compatible with all iPhone models from iPhone XS/XR and later, and iPads running iPadOS 17+.
Route generation requires an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular). The routing engine connects to Stadia Maps or the OpenStreetMap fallback.
Photo processing, contour editing, and viewing saved routes work fully offline.
